چکیده

Performance of a resource-efficient provisioning framework (RPF) is evaluated in this paper in wavelengthcontinuous optical networks under static traffic. The structure of the survivable routing problem is unraveled by an integer linear programming (ILP) model. Numerical results from direct ILP approaches show that the RPF still achieves more than 10% capacity savings over the traditional provisioning framework when subject to the wavelength-continuity constraint. Next, Resource-Efficient Two-stEp Routing subject to Wavelength-ConTinuity constraint (RETER-WCT) algorithm is developed to overcome the drawback of the ILP approach.

Constraint-based path selection methods for on-demand provisioning in WDM networks

path information of choice, such as transmission quality, reliability , policy and traffic conditions, is updated following a connection request, based on a local, autonomous and service-differentiated characterization of optical network elements. It is this local and autonomous network state information that makes our approach particularly suitable for distributed implementation , and applicab...

Extension of segment protection for bandwidth efficiency and differentiated quality of protection in optical/MPLS networks

This paper investigates the problem of dynamic survivable lightpath provisioning against single node/link failures in optical mesh networks employing wavelength-division multiplexing (WDM). We unify various forms of segment protection into generalized segment protection (GSP). In GSP, the working path of a lightpath is divided into multiple overlapping working segments, each of which is protect...

ICBR-Diff: an Impairment Constraint Based Routing Strategy with Quality of Signal Differentiation

Latest advances in Wavelength Division Multiplexing (WDM) technology make it possible to build all-optical transparent networks, which are considered to be able to satisfy the rapidly growing capacity demand. However, in a transparent WDM network the optical signal transmitted from a source to a destination node might be degraded due to physical layer impairments induced by transmission through...

Polynomial Time Algorithm (PTA) to generate a survivable ring virtual topology for Optical WDM based on the Hamiltonian Circuit Detection Heuristics(HCDH)

The Routing and Wavelength Assignment (RWA) problem is known to be NP-hard for general Physical Topology (PT) in optical networks. We have analyzed the survivability of the optical network under Survivable Routing and Shared Path Protection (SPP) for various topologies and suggested two survivable RWA algorithms which are shown to perform better under certain performance matrix by simulation. G...

Differentiated Quality-of-Protection Provisioning in Optical/MPLS Networks

This paper investigates the problem of dynamic survivable lightpath provisioning against single node/link failures in optical mesh networks employing wavelength-division multiplexing (WDM). We present a new approach to provisioning lightpath requests according to their differentiated quality-of-protection (QoP) requirements. We focus on one of the most important QoP parameters, namely protectio...
